    Lisa Sanders, M.D., decided to become a doctor while growing up in Nepal next to a rural hospital. She saw the difference medical care could make in individual lives and in the entire community. “I chose geriatric medicine for the richness of life I see in older adults, the broad scope of practice with something new every day, and the ability to focus on what is important in people’s lives,” she says. In her practice, Dr. Sanders values listening to patients, building a therapeutic relationship over time and working together to manage her patients’ medical problems. She enjoys being part of a team in clinic to provide care that focuses on the whole person, and likes partnering with her patients to improve their quality of life by working toward their individual health goals. Dr. Sanders sees herself as an educator about prevention and medical treatment, a guide to help navigate the health care system and available options, and a partner to be present through difficult transitions. She finds joy in connecting with people, listening to their stories and empowering them on their journey in health. Dr. Sanders earned her medical degree at the University of Washington in Seattle. She completed an internship and residency training at Providence Portland Medical Center in Oregon, and a fellowship in geriatrics at Oregon Health & Science University. In her free time, Dr. Sanders enjoys being outdoors, walking or running, spending time with her family and dog, reading, and drinking tea.
