Biography
Dr. Jose Chavez is a board-eligible general surgeon who is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based surgical care with an emphasis on technical excellence and patient-centered treatment. A native of West Texas, he is proud to return to the region he calls home, where he is beginning his surgical practice in Hobbs, New Mexico, serving patients across southeastern New Mexico and West Texas.
Dr. Chavez earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in General Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in New York City, where he received comprehensive training in the management of abdominal wall reconstruction, complex surgical diseases, emergency surgery, trauma, minimally invasive techniques, and gastrointestinal surgery.
Growing up in a rural community instilled in Dr. Chavez a deep appreciation for the importance of accessible, high-quality surgical care. His goal is to combine advanced surgical training with personalized attention, ensuring that every patient receives thoughtful, individualized care close to home. He believes that strong physician-patient relationships, clear communication, and meticulous surgical technique are the foundation of excellent outcomes.
